CEVA introduces the UWB Radar platform for automotive infant amnesia detection systems

     RivieraWaves UWB Radar provides powerful micro knowledge of object movement and breath for a wide range of applications, including car toddler amnesia detection and gesture control, crib monitoring, and power saving for people detection in laptops, TVS and smart buildings. CEVA has announced that it has extended the RivieraWaves Ultra-wirelessly enabled (UWB) IP to support UWB-RADAR for early childhood amnesia detection (CPD) for Euro-NCAP and similar specifications in other regions.

     Toddler Amnesia Detection is a safety system designed to detect and warn if a child or pet is accidentally left in a car. Euro NCAP regulations in Europe actively advocate infant amnesia detection through safety rating indicators, China CNCAP regulations also advocate the implementation of this function, the United States has passed the Hot Cars Act, and NHTSA is reviewing the guidelines for infant amnesia detection.

     The industry has proven that UWB-based in-car radars are an excellent solution for presence sensing technology, capable of detecting extremely small movements, even breathing rates. Using UWB radar sensors in the car instead of camera-based alternative sensors not only solves the privacy concerns of the in-car perception system, but also supports low-light operation. In addition, by reusing the secure digital key UWB anchor point that is becoming increasingly common in cars, UWB-based infant forgetting detection can be economically deployed across the entire automotive market range from premium to economy models.

     CEVA UWB Radar Solution is an add-on package for CEVA RivieraWaves UWB PHY and MAC IP. This solution provides powerful breath-per-minute (bpm) detection for infant amnesia detection with a resolution of less than 1bpm, exceeding Euro NCAP requirements. By taking full advantage of coherent demodulation architecture and advanced ranging algorithms, CEVA RivieraWaves UWB with Radar provides excellent distance and Angle measurement, gesture recognition and intruder alarm in complex in-car environments. The solution can be optimized for different environments, including the number of antennas that can be configured. The solution is designed to coexist with the Car Connectivity Consortium® (CCC) Digital Key, allowing for the reuse of Digital Key UWB anchored hardware.
